Last December, we brought the Theory back into existence. Y'all are loving it, so we leaned in and discovered more ways to enhance its look and feel.
Let's get into the details below.
Let's Go Back in Time
It's October 2023. You are Brian Keyes, Head of Product at Arcform and Flytanium, and you want to create a knife that provides both function and form. This is how the Theory was born — Arcform's first in-house knife design.
Fast forward one year, and unfortunate timing shortened its lifespan as Arcform closed its doors in 2024.
Luckily for Flytanium, we had a direct path to full rights of the knife.
We wanted a product that featured a blank canvas, completely clean and flat, where we could add a variety of new colors and finishes. The Theory made a natural fit.
Before bringing it back to life and adding it to our roster, we:
- Ditched thumb ramp for more attractive and usable thumb hole
- Switched out for a 20CV steel drop point blade
With those adjustments made, the Theory was ready. We relaunched it in December 2026 under the Flytanium brand. Since then, we've been utilizing its clean slate to the fullest.
Our Blank Canvas
With the Theory, we're able to produce enough different knife customization options to fill every page of an encyclopedia set. We're really liking the idea of making the knife our own.
Just this year, we've released:
- Limited Edition Year of the Fire Horse (now in our archives)*
- Obsidian Filigree DLC Finish (limited supply — available now)**
-
Obsidian DLC Finish (limited supply — available now)**
And more ideas are in the works.
If you have cool finishes in mind or other ways to make a new mark on this blank canvas, send them our way!
In the meantime, grab your own Theory below.
