Who's the BEEF™?
Our most popular pocket knife was almost given a different name.
When we started the BEEF project, we planned to call it the "BITS" Knife (meaning Beat it to Sh**). We wanted to create a folding knife that was incredibly durable, built to be used, and could take on anything you’d throw its way.
Along with this idea, we wanted to start a new type of warranty that would cover any damage due to regular use over the lifetime of the knife. In that same vein, we also wanted to provide all the parts for the knife separately so everyone could upkeep the BEEF as they choose.
Legal Name Change
The name change to “BEEF” came after we received the first samples of the knife. After many people described the knife as being "beefy," we felt that the knife deserved this more appropriate name. But conveniently, BITS would become our new product warranty.
With durability in mind, designing the knife came relatively easy since we were locked in on what we wanted the end product to be and what materials would best achieve that.
All our initial sketching and 3D prototyping focused on simpler scale profiles, and the blade shapes were given the most knife possible without sacrificing the in-hand ergonomics. From those initial ideas we found the BEEF design we still offer today.
The Launch
The first slab of BEEF knives launched successfully in December 2024.
After listening to what our fans had to say, we took helpful feedback and made some design changes that made the BEEF more user friendly. These changes included:
- Switching the blade steel from D2 to 14c28n — it is a great bang-for-your-buck steel that is tougher, has better corrosion resistance, and is easier to sharpen.
- Switching the Torx drive on the body screws from T6 to T8 — which made it easier to take apart and rebuild the knife.
- Changing the body screw assemblies to two screws and using a center barrel instead of a sex bolt — this also makes it easier to disassemble and reassemble the knife when swapping scales and doing other customizations.
- Increasing the thread size on the thumbstud — so they would no longer shear.
With these adjustments, we landed on one of the best and most affordable pocket knives on the market today.
The BEEF returns on May 14th @ 10 AM (Mountain Time). Set up a restock alert so you don't miss out!
