Your knife tells a unique story. Each cut it makes, each scrape and scratch it takes on, means something. And you can probably call back to the time they earned each one.
We asked Dead Fly Society to share some of these knife stories with us, and we loved hearing about how knives come in clutch for you in both everyday situations and unexpected ways.
Below are a few of our favorite snippets. Names have been changed.
You Did What??
Let's start with a very-human-coded story.
A while back, Roger was hanging and skating with the boys. As kids do, one of them zip-tied their thumbs together as a joke. Long story short, he had to carefully cut them apart with a pocket knife.
Life wouldn't be as fun without a little nonsense now and again.
Knives Bring Us Closer
Life also needs community, and the knife world has a strong one. Jay told us that knives have brought several very significant people into their life that they'll never let go of.
Most of us feel the same way.
We All Do This
Something else we can all relate to is this — cutting open boxes. One question we asked was "What do you use your folding knife for mostly?" Warren said, "Ashamed, but opening boxes."
Walk up to the toughest-looking knife nerd you know and ask them the same thing. They will tell you their knife opens up a lot of boxes.
Got Eating Utensils?
No judgement, but we also learned that y'all are cutting your food with pocket knives.
No joke.
Pizzas, steaks, and birthday cakes.
In a pinch, the best EDC can do anything.
A Knife Saved the Day
Knives have many uses. That is especially true when it comes to emergencies, like this one from Sam. "When my oldest daughter was about 10 years old, she somehow managed to get herself tangled in the seatbelt in the backseat of the car. The seatbelt locked and continued to get tighter. The more she moved, the less slack she had and the more it tightened. She started panicking, and I needed to get her out of the belt. I grabbed my Arcade, cut the belt, and safely released her from it."
Sometimes knives save lives. That's one of the many reasons why we call them "everyday carry." You may not need it all the time, but you'll want it when you do.
We found a bunch of heroes in our fanbase — saving your family members and friends, cars, motorcycles, horses, squirrels, and all kinds of pets from crazy-scary circumstances. Truly impressive to say the least.
Putting "E" in EDC
Aside from life-saving scenarios, having and using knives is just part of what y'all do.
We read hundreds of lines like these:
"It's a tool I always have on me."
- "When hasn't my knife helped me out?"
- "Everyone needs a knife."
- "No knife, no life!"
- "It's been everything for me."
All of the stories above were from people who needed a knife when nothing else would do. And it is so cool to hear how scrappy you all can be with our knives.
We know you can choose any EDC brand. Thank you for including us in your story.
